Leonora Bush Mission Trip Day 5

The morning began, once again, with the melodic sounds of loud snoring, sleep talking and singing of all different tunes. The competition to get to the showers began as we all rose from our sleepy state. The showers were warm and relaxing whilst full of bugs, moths and spiders. The boys (aka Nelly Noo and Joshy Lou) continued to scare each other with the air horn they had found in the toilets. All the while, arguments continued about whether hilo milk or full cream milk was the best. Also, resorting to having to eat cereal instead of the fabled two minute noodles. Before we left, our fellow team members Gwen, Olivia and Luritha presented to us a devotion from Psalm 19 (Not 119). We then left to go to the Rec Centre.

We arrived at the Rec Centre and began our set up. The kids rushed in and began tracing their feet onto pieces of paper that were then stuck to the wall. This event was followed by Sir Random Finds and Barefoot talking about the theme of the day (and carbon footprints) followed by Rowell and Jadon performing the usual songs.

In the Littlies corner we made beautiful mask that consisted of pompoms, glue flitter and beautiful teachers. We also made flame crowns where the kids dod not limit themselves to the flitter glue. <-- Sorry for those sentences, Jean wrote it and she is very tired from being with the kids. We also made chariots and egg cups in the older kids art group... It was very eggsausting. We then had morning tea followed by more fun and games while the kids got a little bit crazier. It was pizza for lunch which was delicious. We packed up and played some basketball then went back home (our accommodation). A quick rest was followed by the afternoon session where the young ones painted their faces and the older kids played on the oval.

At night we had a beautiful dinner consisting of left over meat pie and spaghetti bolognese which was made by Michael’s mum (thank you, it was delicious). That was then followed by parents night which was lots of fun with the kids. Their parents even got involved with the singing and games as we concluded the evening and had snacks. This was then followed by pack up and more basketball. And Jean got a 3 pointer!

The night is now coming to an end as we all relax and get ready for tomorrow.

Signing off, Joshy Lou and Leonora Covero :)

Goodnight, Magandang Gabi, Goede nacht

Day 4
We were woken up by the musical snoring provided by Rowell. His back-up snorers were Jadon and Miss Webster (Miss Webster mentioned that her dog never let her know that she snored). Olivia provided the sleep-talk. Josh did a wonderful devotion on Philippians 2, which inspired us all.
After a delicious breakfast we went to the Recreation Centre and started setting up for the morning’s activities. Soon the children arrived and we went into groups and helped the leaders with the children. Then Rowell and Josh put on a wonderful performance describing the lesson that the children were going to learn today, plus he also talked about Stephen appointing helpers in the church; they reminded us that we are never too ordinary. We had the pleasure of finally meeting the Curtin University volunteers who  threw themselves into it with much enthusiasm. The spider-man game commenced in an explosion of excitement and where the children and the Curtin University students volunteered to be contestants.
Throughout the rest of the morning the groups continued with the activities planned for the day. The young children were able to decorate paper bears, princesses and pirates. Miss Webster’s creative art skills were a big hit with the older children (with the help of Gwyneth and co.) as she taught them to create amazing landscapes made with steel wool and watercolours. The children also constructed highly mechanised and sophisticated styrofoam sailing cars, which they then raced (Michael - our chief engineer - won both times).
Even though this years team is sooooooooo fantastic they still remember the team from last year and still miss them (Nelson is the new Simon).
After the children left we cleaned up the recreation centre and got ready for lunch. The Curtin University students joined us and we had mini frankfurters.
Mrs Swarts was overwhelmed with excitement when she discovered Leonora’s one-and-only cafe!!! Her review was so amazing that Olivia, Luritha and Viola decided to go on a triple date.
We chilled at home base until the YMCA came out from Kalgoorlie with a bunch of equipment that we all enjoyed testing out before the kids arrived. After a length of time, we got real hot and had to go inside to chill some more in the air conditioning. Soon, the children came streaming across the oval towards the inflatable equipment, as ants stream across the red sand towards the anthill. Everyone stayed inside coz we were too tired.
We later got ready for a lovely dinner which was prepared by the equally lovely Mrs Swarts at the Recreation Centre.
After that, all the children went home and came back for our games night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! which was prepared by the amazing Curtin University Volunteers, and with the help of Avril and Mrs Henderson and the leaders and the team. Somehow team 7 won (there are suspicions about bribery and corruption) with a whoppin’ 316 points. We ended the night and walked back home amongst the bunnies. We finally got home to find the phone chargers belonging to Miss Pleysier, Miss Martens and Miss Covero had mysteriously disappeared and were later found under the bench ( Nelson and Mitchell are our current prime suspects).
So we are writing this blog after a long day and are really tired and probably have bad punctuation but... Yeah.
