LBM Day 6
We had the normal wake call and had some healthy breakfast. We then all got ready after wonderful devotion from Viola, Sage and Mitchell on the importance of not listening to everything everyone says. We then had the morning session with a dramatic rendition of Saul’s conversion on the way to Damascus by Gwyneth & Jean. This was followed by an interesting and engaging craft session and then group time. Some of the parents also made a reappearance and helped with some of the group games which was encouraging to see. Lunch took an interesting turn when we discovered that the ‘crunchy’ peanut butter was not in fact crunchy but smooth. It was a grievous mis-labeling on the behalf of Kraft food and one that did not go unnoticed by Olivia. Lunch time was also filled with some egg-cellent puns mostly from Jean, Nelson and Josh with some solid input from Luritha. We spent some time after lunch blowing up balloons with lollies in them in preparation for the last day activities. When all was packed up and prepared we jumped on the bus to make a short excursion to Gwalia ghost town which was both creepy and quite informative. It was quite fascinating to see the conditions and socio-economic standards people lived in and how well their humble homes and possessions had been preserved. We also saw the open pit mine which was massive and apparently went underground as well. After the ghost town we continued onto the old gold processing facility where we authorized ourselves to gain access to the facility. After contenting ourselves with exploring the place we returned to the sport centre and rested up for the night games. At around 4:30 we drove off to Sir’s property in preparation for the barbecue and a game of Raiders with the kids. The property also contained many animals such as pigs, goats, dogs, cats, turkeys, kangaroos and a couple of varieties of chicken. It was at that point that Sage rekindled her love of pigs and in turn her love of hairless cats and snakes. Josh also had a moment with one of the kangaroo’s in which he almost managed to feed one of the kangaroo’s a bit of grass from his hand. After these lovely bonding moments with nature everyone gathered around the bonfire and had a sausage in a bun which Rowell insisted on pronouncing sau-sage to the amusement of the kids. After everyone’s bellies were full everyone hurried off further into the property for a game of raiders. After lighting the fires in the middle the game commenced. Team 1 won by about 700 points due to lightning fast runners and thorough guarding of the PVC pipes. While Team 2 also had some skilled players they suffered the loss of abandoners and some cripples (minor injuries). After the game the kids went home on the bus and everyone relaxed around the campfire and looking at the stars. Then the bus came and took us all back to our beds where we are currently writing this while everyone else chills out and gets ready to fall into bed.
